West Office Exhibit Design

Culture+History

Science+Technology
Corporate

I was unable to attend the field trip, but from what I’ve heard and seen, they are a much bigger firm than the Mauk Design, the firm featured on the previous field trip. From their website, they create engaging exhibits, immersive environments and novel experiences that are relevant and meet the needs of clients. Their goal is to inspire wonder and enjoyment in their visitors. From looking at the pictures of some of their exhibits online I am amazed at their versatility and ability to take on the unique challenges and obstacles of any project they face. I hear they have a much bigger workspace and students got to see a much more hands on and in depth presentation of what exhibit design teams do. It sounds like this trip was a much more rewarding experience for our class.

WEST OFFICE exhibit design

Visiting West Office exhibit design was an amazing experience. Being able to see all the different aspects and processes in their exhibits gave me a better understanding. They design exhibits for different museums such as science, culture, and corporate. West Office does a great deal of research to find the identity of each exhibit. They’re exhibits are so finely researched and design, therefore the end result is beautiful.

West Office Trip - Matthew Kuukka

The visit to West Office was amazing they seemed to be a very large scale design firm. There presentation was very good showing their process and how they come from the initial clients calling them all the way to following up on the instillation of the exhibits. The office was very impressive in how it looked and the layout and organization of how the teams worked. I liked that no one had a permanent desk and that they moved people around into smaller team depending on skill sets and projects needs. They drawings that were on the wall were also very nice and my favorite thing from the trip, to bad we couldn’t take pictures of it. Overall a great trip and gives great ideas about how the exhibit design industry works.

West Office Exhibition Design is a design firm that specializes in museums and interactive science exhibits. The studio consists of designers from different ethnicities and backgrounds. Visiting WOED was quite an experience. I like the spacious open environment of the office. It not only provides an extra space for breathing but also for creativity. This is the type of company that I would like to work for or to have in the future. I enjoyed Steve Wiersema's presentation and Mark Elliott's company tour. It was very informative and insightful. I was impressed that the firm would be able to design and develop each unique product to meet their clients' expectations. I like how the WOED In-house project teams take things seriously and work closely together from master planning to installation supervision. Hopefully, we will have a similar experience in our class.

I was excited to learn that the firm is working on the Guangdong Science Center project right now. It will be the largest science center in the world when complete. I like the simple, clean, futuristic look and feel of the design. The exhibition will include the human body, medicine and health and, perception and thinking. I can't wait to see/visit the finished product.
