Project 2: Mood Board & Logo Sketches

Logo Sketch(s)

Here are some logo sketches I did with the word “reverb”. Because of the nature of the word, I was leaning more towards repetition and/or reflection of the letters themselves in order to create a logo.

These are various images that I thought would pertained to the word “reverb.” I took these because there are only so many ways of visually communicating sound, since is not visible. While taking/choosing these, I noticed that there seems to be an emphasis on light refraction/waves, as well as organic repeating matter, and hand crafted letterforms.

The term "Reverb" brings to mind images of vibrating sounds, light, and textures. For my mood board, I chose images that looked as though they are in movement. I sketched lines and experimented with paint splashes to illustrate what I thought vibration would look like. I also looked up images and took photos of things that visually and graphically translate sound.

Logo Sketches

"Reverb is created when a sound is produced in an enclosed space causing a large number of echoes to build up and then slowly decay as the sound is absorbed by the walls and air." Using this definition in conjuction with the inpiration on my mood board I designed a couple logos using repetition and opacity to illustrate the repeated but fading sound.

Creating my mood board and thinking of the word reverb I thought of sound hitting walls and moving through out the room. The Imagery that I choose shows movement and sound frequencies. I wanted to portray that this exhibit is moving to bigger and better thing.

Reverb Moodboard and Logo Sketches

I began my research by looking for examples of artists and scientists who have attempted visualizing sound. These images mostly consisted of strong geometry, fractals, lines, or concentric circles.
